Best Downtown Steamboat Springs Lodging

Recent developments and the transformation of Yampa Street has brought new life to the historic downtown district of Steamboat Springs.

Downtown Steamboat Springs speaks to the heart and history of this legendary mountain community.  The historic courthouse overlooks the wide streets that were once host to cattle being herded to the rail depot down to board trains to market.  In the background at Howelsen Hill you can see the ski jumps and hills where the Norwegian skier Carl Howelsen introduced the sport of skiing in 1913.  Hot springs still bubble into the Yampa River where Steamboat Springs was originally named by fur trappers who though they heard a Steamboat chugging towards them as they paddled downstream.

Today the revitalized downtown district boasts new development and enhancements that have transformed both Lincoln Avenue and Yampa Street into iconic places to visit and linger.  Staying here places you in the heart of the action for new Steamboat nightlife and shopping experiences that still share the authentic character and charm that have won the hearts of so many visitors.  Accessing the mountain is still super easy with our complimentary private shuttle and free city bus services.

In recent years, we have been witness to a culinary renaissance in Downtown Steamboat which now boasts a wide array of restaurants and nightlife, from Mexican to fine dining and all in between.  And, when you stay in one of our downtown penthouses at the Olympian, you can easily walk to all of them.  Some of our downtown favorites include The Laundry (small plates and craft cocktails), Mambo Italiano  (Italian and good for families), Aurum Food & Wine (riverside dining), Salt & Lime (creative Mexican and rooftop dining), and Creekside Cafe (awesome breakfast and lunch - worth the wait).

In addition to easy-access to the majority of Steamboat’s dining, downtown Steamboat offers shopping, events, and activities for all.  Walk along main street and peruse the shops, then head over to the Farmer’s Market (summer on Saturdays) or one of our summer free concerts at Howelsen Hill.  Take the kids on a horseback ride or hike (or the Alpine Slide fun!) at Howelsen Hill, or go play at one of the many spots along the Yampa River.  Staying downtown at the Olympian also means you can walk over to the summer weekly pro rodeo or the downtown hot springs, or capture incredible grandstand views of Steamboat’s famous Winter Carnival or 4th of July fireworks from your private patio-deck.
