Discover Breckenridge's Top Fall Activities

Breckenridge, Summit County’s historic high-elevation town, is a magnificent place to visit in the fall. Starting in September, the skies clear out and the Aspen trees turn bright yellow. Because of the bluebird days and vivid colors, many people call the fall Colorado’s Golden Season. We invite you to come to Breckenridge and experience a golden getaway in the Rockies. Here are some of our favorite fall activities.

Drive to Boreas Pass

Known for its golden Aspen tree tunnels, Boreas Pass Road is a classic Breckenridge fall destination. This scenic drive allows you to cruise the landscape and take in the views. Driving to Boreas Pass, located about 10 miles south of town at over 11,400 feet, is one of the best ways to see the fall foliage.

How do you get to Boreas Pass?

At the south end of Breckenridge, turn east onto Boreas Pass Road. After about four miles, the road turns to dirt at the Boreas Pass Trail Head. From this point to the top of Boreas Pass is about 6.5 miles. Be aware, there are single-lane sections through narrow spots of the road. Remember to give uphill traffic right-of-way. If you’re looking for a quick hike right off of Boreas Pass Road, we recommended Aspen Alley, which takes you through one of Summit County’s largest Aspen tree groves.
